Egads, this cat is falling apart!  Today one of his lower canine teeth just fell
over.  It is hanging out his mouth in a most snaggletooth kinda way.  It doesn't
seem to bother him.  He let me touch it.  I thought I might be able to pull it
out but it didn't come out to easily.  He wolfed down a can of food,  grazed the
dry food bowl, drank water, took a tongue bath.....  it is not effecting him at
all.  I am sure that it will fall out on it's own.  TED is calling tomorrow with
his thyroid results (if they come in) and I can ask her what to do.  His eye is
clearer, not oozing but the membranes are still a little reddish pink and he
squints.

Between the Popeye squint on the left eye and the snaggletoothed snarl on the
right ... he is one pathetic sight. :(
Well I hope that we can get his "elderly" problems under control soon.  Poor
guy.

Awww. He's having a tough time. Could he have an infection even though it
doesn't bother him? That could cause whacky blood levels.

The tooth has fallen out, uneventfully.  I found it in the dry food bowl when I
went to replenish it.  Dusty is utterly unaffected.  He immediately put his face
into the dry food and started eating.  I took a look at the tooth, it is
basically the whole canine with a very, very rotted out bottom.  Where the tooth
was looks okay.  It's not swollen or red, he doesn't flinch when I touch the
area.  It basically looks like my daughter gums when she loses teeth.  I will
let TED know tomorrow about the tooth and see what she says.

Kelsey wrote a letter to the tooth fairy on Dusty's behalf.  She asked for money
or a cat toy.  I told her I didn't think there was a Feline Tooth Fairy.  She
disagrees.  Guess Dusty will be getting 50 cents under his pillow, or udder.....

is the root coming out as well or just the top of the tooth?  It could be a
cervical lesion and just the top of the tooth has broken off.  If so, you
should get him to the vet soon to have the root taken care of

Poor baby! We'll keep purring for you. Fez says the tooth-less look is
all the rage. Then again, he's just finished loosing his baby teeth, so
what does he know?

Why thank you Fez!  Did your daddy save your baby teeth?

Late last night I and picked up the tooth and just started crying.  I remember
when he was a baby and he lost his little canines.  I still have them in a box.
I think it hit me when he lost this tooth is that... he is old.  I still think
of him as a kitten but all these problems prove he is getting to be an old man..
:(

I was so upset and DH just hugged me and the more he hugged the more I cried.
After we talked for awhile I also realized that all of this daily caregiving,
eyedrops, hypertension meds, monitoring the food and water and litterbox output,
the tooth, the 4 trips to TED in 2 weeks... it brought me back to Kody d*g.  I
was giving the meds, taking him to TED, making sure he was eating and breathing
okay.  I checked Kody's gums 10 times a day to make sure they weren't turning
white again.....  From when we first brought him in to TED until he died was
about 2 weeks.  That's where I am with Dusty now.  I am just so scared he is
just going to die no matter how well I take care of him.  I remember on Kody's
last night home he wouldn't eat and then later that night he was so shallow of
breath and couldn't even stand up. I went and laid on the floor with him.  I put
his head on my pillow.  Covered us up and just put my arms around him with my
hand on his heart  waiting for it to stop beating.  I kept telling him it was
okay if he needed to leave us now.  <okay now I am bawling>

Thank The Bowl for all of you guys.  Most of you have been there and know what I
am feeling.  I take comfort in that more than you know.  Thanks for purring and
caring.  Currently Dusty is sitting on my DH's desk looking out the window at
all the cyclist going by.  It's El Tour de Tucson (110 mile bike race) today and
all these crazily dressed (why do cyclist wear such garish colors?)  are zipping
by on two wheels.  His head follows as they zip by.  It's pretty cute.  A bunch
of people have "stuff" attached to their helmets.  I have seen champagne
glasses, sirens, stuffed animals, bee antenna,  wings, a whole group with Santa
hats.... wacky but great eye candy for The Dust.

TJ, you had me crying too. Both for Kody and for Dusty, though I don't agree
that Dusty's old, just middle-aged (otherwise F&N would be ancient, and
they're not!!). You take such good care of Dusty, and you took the best care
of Kody.

I'm so very sorry you are going through losing Kody again. But I am sure
Dusty is not leaving you, he just needs a bit more care now than he usually
does. We are here for you if there is anything we can do.
We are thinking of you all, sending healing vibes and purrs for Dusty to be
well again ASAP and hugs for you, TJ,

It's just plain hard not to worry. If we didn't worry we wouldn't care. If
we didn't care, they would truly suffer. If they suffered that would be
tragic. So just know you are doing the best for him. He is aging and having
some troubles but the game is not up until he says it is. Just give him some
extra loving for all of us and let him know we send continued puurrrayers.

I'm sorry to hear about Dusty's problems!  But it's just a tooth,
right?

I loved your pic of him with the little hat on his first birthday.
Hopefully, he'll have many more of those!

I know how you feel, TJ.  I always get teary when I even *think* about Vino
getting sick and dying.  This must be very hard for you, going through
Kody's death again and with Dusty being sick.  But don't worry, I'm sure his
time isn't coming for a long, long time yet.  11 isn't really that old for a
cat.  He's just going through a rough patch right now, but I'm sure he'll be
all better soon.  He'll live to be in his 20's, just like Vino will!

I have one of Vino's tiny little baby fangs in a little zip lock bag.  I was
so lucky to find it before accidentally vacuuming it up.  I am going to keep
it forever :-)

Aww, poor Dusty. I hope the test results will give the answer to why he's
losing his flabulousness, and purrs that the eye and tooth situations clear
up.

About the tooth?? Cross your fingers that you can
find it and turn it into a pendant :)))

Dynasty is 5 yers old and has 2 teeth left... she
has no problem at all with that and she still
prefers dry food to the soft one :)
Also our TED confirmed that living without teeth
is much much better than living with a toothache :)

So, purrs & prayers for the rest of TED's
matters.... but don't worry for the teeth :))))
