We have an 8 year old male, that until recently, never sprayed in the
house. This evening he jumped up on the kitchen counter top and sprayed
all over on the wall and a  roll of paper towels.
He has always been affectionate, and would get  along well with the
female cat.which has been his 'cat mate' since kittenhood.
We have been in the process of packing and moving for the past 3
months, gone are his favorite chairs, tables and such. We have also
stopped him from going outside because each time he went he was gone
longer and longer, and we figured one day he just would stay gone.
Besides the spraying he is no longer affectionate towards us and he
hisses at the other cat. a complete turn around. Were we not moving I
would just let him outside and hope for the best, however our next
residence is a 650 sq ft apt in Manhattan with NO patio. Needless to
say we can't live with a cat that sprays. Any suggestions??

thanks...

Richard

Is he neutered?
Has the vet checked him to make sure he doesn't have an urine or bladder
infection?

I think he is feeling frustrated and insecure. You say that you all his
favourite chairs and tables etc are packed away - he might be afraid
what will happen to him also. Hopefully he will calm down when his well
known furniture is put back in its place in the new apartment.
Packing for so long must also be stressful for you - your stress affects
the cats also.
