Luring a cat home

Anyone have any tips for luring a cat home? So far I have sprayed
catnip spray around the house (outside) and in the garden. I have some
proper catnip as well, so was thinking of sprinkling this somewhere
to.  Also an idea is for maybe getting some canned tuna and using the
juice as a bait to lure him back?

Later on, or tomorrow I know I might have half the cats in the
neighbourhood in my back garden, but its got to be worth a shot right?

There's nothing that makes a cat go as crazy as fresh tuna from a can.
Even Ham doesn't have the same effect.

I was also thinking of looking for him up and down the streets around
my house in the early hours of the morning just as it starts to get
light. I think this is prime time for him.

If you have any suggestions I'd appreciate it.

Go ahead with your plans and take it with humour...
Once you've got him, put a collar on him, this reduces the chances of him
getting fed elsewhere, means he has to come home when hungry.
Is the cat neutered? This helps too.

One question.  Why do you want to lure him home?!?!?

He has been missing for almost a week now that's why and his owner my
sister is getting a little distraught.

Someone could be feeding him also.  Check at the cat rescue places and
hopefully you will find him.

I used tuna to get my Koko back after him pushed out a window screen.  I
just yelled "Koko here's tuna" and he ran back home. Koko is my 12 yrs old
seal point; he is an imp in fur.

I would think thats if he isnt desexed he is looking for a bit of
fluff, so that should be your top priority when you get him back.

Keeping your cat indoors at night would be a good start.   You would need to
confine your cat indoors for a week or more so that it gets the message
where its home is.   A collar with your phone number so that it does not get
fed by the neighbours (I have heard of a cat being fed by three households
each believing that they were the cats owners).
And desex your cat.   Roaming cats, along with misplaced strays and the one
that go feral create a pest and are a nuisance
to the neighbourhood.
