Pet Sitting or Boarding

I have 2 cats - one is a 14 year old indoor/outdoor cat who loves to
mostly be outdoors.  The other is a 5 month old kitten who stays
mostly inside but does go out through the cat door.  We have trained
these cats to use the back part of the yard as their litter box,
however they are litter box trained.

My husband and I will be going on a trip for about a week, and are
struggling to decide which would be better:  Having a pet sitter come
feed and check on them while we're gone, or take them to the vet for
boarding.

If we have a pet sitter come, we still can't decide if we should close
the cat door and leave them together inside all week or not.  The
older cat is still very grumpy with the kitten and likes to escape
through the cat door to get away from the kitten's play fighting. (I
think it's play - the older cat seems to think it's annoying.)  I
don't know how they'd do cooped up together for a week!

Any ideas?  Anyone know if cats get time out of the cages at boarding
places? I do plan to go by our vet's clinic to check out their
boarding rules.

Thanks,
Linda

If a sitter is available, I'd go for the sitter.  You might go away
for a day and see if the cats will be O.K.  I'd also leave the cat
door open for them because cats don't like changes in their lives.  I
assume that you don't have other cats come in?

My cats weren't all that fond of the vet's.  Your cats may feel better
about this.  Ask about boarding places and letting the cats out.  I
wouldn't want to leave them in a cage for a week.

Yes, kittens love to play fight.

I'm with Saul on this one. My cats just *hate* change. I'm sure yours
would be happier in familiar surroundings.
