For a couple pf weeks, my cat's behaviour has changed. One day, he
disappeared for four days. He eventually came home, and asked to be
fed. He seemed in good health, but seemed unusually indifferent to me,
and wouldn't look me in the eye. I fed him, and immediately he
disappeared again. EVer since then, he only comes in to the house when
he wants food - and as soon as he's ben fed he flits away again. I
have a cat flap installed so he can come and go as he pleases.
Last night his behaviour got even wierder! I was lying in bed, about
to go to sleep when I heard him meowing to me. He was sitting on the
ground beneath my open (upstairs) bedroom window. I carried on a
little conversation with him, exchanging "meows" for a while, and
called him to come into the house. But he did not come into the house.
I fell asleep, and a short while later was woken up again by the cat
meowing. Again, I called him, but he didn't come in. This went on for
most of the night, and in the end I had to shut the window in order to
get some sleep.
Today, he came into the house - presumably because he wanted feeding.
I suspect that there may be some reason why he doesn't like coming in
the house - except when hunger makes it really necessary, but I cannot
think what that reason might be.
When he does come into the house for feeding, he doesn't approach me;
I have to approach him! Before this change in behaviour, he would
typically trot over to me and jump up on my lap whenever he came in.
Now, he doesn't even enter the room where I am. He typically sits
outside, meowing.
Any suggestions/explanations would be appreciated.
Thanks

Has he been spayed? If not, he's after females.

Hi Saul, Yes he was spayed at a young age. Perhaps he's after females
nevertheless!
The latest development is that he hasn't even been in for food during
the last 24 hours. I'm still hearing him meowing in the back garden
occasionally though. I get the impression he is talking to me every
time I hear that. Maybe it's just a game. Perhaps he's found another
master or mistress who is feeding him.

Oops! Spaying is for females. Males are neutered.
