Can someone please tell me why we can pick up our cats without any trouble;
but as soon as we come into a room with a dropper full of anti-flea drops,
they disappear like a flash!!!!!

Not being sarcastic here, but try using your brain.

I live in an area where fleas are not a problem, but I do brush my cats
teeth and trim her nails regularly.

These two things are done in a bathroom, so prior to doing this, I set
things up. Put the paste on the tooth brush and place the claw trimmers on
the counter. When I see that my cat is "vulnerable" I gently pick her up and
carry her into the bathroom for the tooth and nail thing.

Planning ahead works for me.

Surprisingly, I have no trouble with brushing my cats - we live in the
country where they mix with many other animals, domesticated and otherwise,
so very quickly pick up unwelcome 'visitors' - not just fleas. I use a multi
pest solution that only takes a drop on the back of their neck, and does not
need any preparation. However they know exactly what I have in my pocket!!!
Who said we are more clever than animals.!
