My cat tends to become a bit smelly after a while. Is it ok to take
him in the shower and give him a good shampoo with normal human
shampoo occasionally?

Thanks

I recommend you use a cat shampoo.

Why is your cat smelly?
Is it an unneutered male? Neutering will help.
Some foods will make a cat smell - changing foods helps.

Thanks for the reply. How does cat shampoo differ from human shampoo
(apart from the price)?

He's a neutered male. It smells as if he spends time rolling around in
dry animal manure sometimes.. Perhaps he does! (we live in a rural
area).

Thanks

I am not sure what the difference is, but I expect cat fur and human
hair have different ph values and such... Also there is not as much
perfume in cat shampoo as there is in a lot of human shampoos.

If he is dirty regularly, you could try using normal water without
shampoo to remove the dirt. Shampoos can dry out the fur and the skin if
used too often.
