My cat got an abscess. No pus was found when it was opened up, so the
wound was stitched up. I have since been told that abscesses mustn't be
stitched up. My cat is now far worse and now has cellulitis and I don't
know whether it is because the wound was stitched up. Was this the right
thing to do?

An abscess should be allowed to drain while it heals. The cat should also be
given a course of antibiotics.

My vet' left the abcess open for drainage, then precribed heavy doses of
antibiotics to cimcumvent infection that might be caused by the
drainage. (abcessed tooth)
