I had a cat who was the same way and I had to save her
life from being eaten by the neighbors dog before she
decided I could hold her and pet her.

I have 2 cats, one male, one female. The female doesn't want to be picked up, never. When I pick her up, het struggle gets stronger so in a few seconds I just let her go. (Two of three minutes! Wow!)
(She likes to be pet very much though, just not to be picked up, that's all.)
I guess some cats just don't like to be picked up and I doubt very much that my cat ever will come to like it. But what the hey, als long as she's happy, I don't really mind.

We have four cats - we love them!
We have been fortunate that over the years they are healthy and we never have litter box problems, etc.
Two males and two females - all fixed since early cathood.
One of the females was a wild, stray, that my wife brought in when she appeared to be about a year old, maybe a little less.
Even though she has become use to being in the house (she is now about 2 years old) she won't let us pick her up, pet her, touch her, in any way. I'm able to "corner her" now and then, or sneak up on her when she's sleeping, and pick her up. She meows strongly, not a yell, but like she is in agony. I can hold her for maybe 2-3 minutes and she really start fighting me to get loose. She doesn't bite or scratch - just struggles strongly.
I'm the only one that can even do this with her. Probably because I'm the one who feeds and cleans the box, etc.
She doesn't hide, she plays with the other cats, she is always there at meal time and won't run away when she sees us. She just doesn't want any human contact.
She is a pretty little cat and we would really like to be able to enjoy her as we do the other three.
They sleep with us sometimes, love to sit in your lap, make bread on your arm, purr all the time.
Not this one female.
Is there any hope she will come around? Is there anything we can do to encourage her? Or, is this what we can expect until she is gone?
I appreciate any comments. If anyone needs more info, please let me know.
THANKS!!!
