Hi
A cat adopted us over a month ago and we just can't keep him.  Our allergies
are doing poorly and two more of my kids are having asthma symptoms now.
The cat mostly stays outdoors but comes in to eat a play and cuddle a bit.
I'm in Southern CA and don't just want to give him to anyone.  He's a really
smart cat.
Thanks

When I was tested for alergies the results were on a scale of
0-999 and cats were 999. I just take benadryl every day and
I don't have a problem.

Chocolate was also 999 and I didn't stop eating that.

My eyes are itchy all the time and my kids need inhalers and they didn't
before the cat.  I tried benedryl and claritin, the claritin works for me
but the kids are still wheezy.
I do NOT want to let go of this cat, he's really cool, but I think I should.
On the 4th of July at night we put him in our large carpeted laundry room,
and let him out in the morning.  I could smell cat poop.  I discovered he
pooped in a TRASH BAG!!!  I thought it was great!  What a smart cat!

When I was very young, about 10, I too had problems with kitties, dogs too.
I had the itchy problem, and got wheezy.  I also would rub my eyes, and I
would end up with a mess!
I would have to put a cold wash rag over my eyes - at least it made my eyes
feel better, and helped
with the puffiness.

We had one kitty at the time, my Mom found a good home for her...my
brothers, sister and I were so upset.
And of course the others blamed it on me.

But, years went by - and for my 14th birthday, my parents got me kitty, and
later gave my sister a kitty -
the sister to my kitty.
I did not experience any of the problems that I had - had 4 years before
that.

I have had cats, dogs, a rabbit sense then - and still no problems.
Interesting thing - my brothers and my sister, now have the problems that I
used to have.
A couple of them do have animals, but they keep them
outside, (I wish they wouldn't though).

I have recently read, that having animals around children (while they are
growing up),
actually helps these conditions, that I had as a yound child.

Not to change the subject - but in this same article, it was mentioned that
more and more
children are born with these conditions already.

In my situation, I either grew out of these conditions, or what I really
think, was being around
many animals - to this day!

Your cat does sound really cool.
Wish I could take in another right now, but my kitty hates all other
kitties!

I hope your situation works out for everyone...kitty included!!

Take care,
DJ

My wife is also allergic.  Try what we do for a while and see how it works.
Once our cat is in for the evening he gets a good brushing (which he loves)
and then we wipe him down with one of those allergy wipes (we found them at
petsmart).
since doing this my wife has had no allergy problems and she can even
snuggle with the little guy a bit.

Good luck
