Last week my boyfriend and I found a small kitten wandering about a
relative's home. She seemed malnourished, and having a soft spot for
strays, I coerced her to come closer with a bowl of tuna, captured
her, and brought her home to our other three full-grown cats.

At today's vet appointment she checked out to be thoroughly healthy
with the exception of ear mites, and was treated for other parasites
though thus far I've seen no indication that it was a necessity (more
a precaution).

I had assumed her to be about 10 weeks old, and was shocked when the
vet pointed out that she has her full adult teeth which would indicate
she is no less than 6 months!

She is a quarter of the size (height/width/length) of our other cats
(all of whom weigh between 5-10 lbs.). She only weighs 2.5 lbs. She
looks every bit a kitten, but something I had noted initially is that
her head seems a bit large in comparison to her body and has a
slightly more mature demeanor than kittens I've had in the past.

I've never seen such a small cat before, and I'm terribly curious as
to how common this is and what others' experience is with cats of this
size.

Here's my question: Does anyone else out there have experience with
cats of this size? Can a cat this size grow, at 6+ months of age to a
"normal" size. Or will she likely stay a "kitten" forever?

I will try to post a picture of her and follow-up in case anyone is
curious.

My Biscotti cat was a pregnant 5 month old whose malnourished body gave all
of the nutrients to the kittens instead of her growing self.  Even though we
had her spayed before term, she never really recovered that month of
nourishment loss and has always remained small and had health problems.
She's probably 4 pounds today.  She's actually gained some weight with age
as she used to be about 3 pounds which was too skinny for even her small
size.  She's my permanant kitten, schizo hide underbed and 4 a.m. sqeaking
and all, and I love her to bits despite her loonyness.

I know this is an old ,essage, but I just joined this group and read it
today.

About 16 years ago, a tiny baby "kitten" came running across the parking lot
toward me at the mall. I looked all over for its owner, but could not find
the owner so I took the keiiten home. I knew she could not be more than 4 to
6 weeks old because she was so tiny. Anyway, like you, I took her to the vet
and found out she was about about 5 months old because of her teeth. She got
only slightly bigger. The vet said that every so often one is just really
small. Except for her size, she was perfectly normal.

I have a friend the has a small compact cat like the one you are describing.
She is adorable she looks like a toy instead than an animal.  She once had a
litter but only had one kitten, I guess is because of her size. She is the
sweets thing you have ever seen.  I asked my friend where did you find this
cat, she said that one morning she was driving over the railroad tracks in
her town an her a sound, she went to investigate and found her, at the
beginning she thought it was a kitten, but after taking her to the vet she
found out that she was a full grown cat..  she couldn't have weighed more
than 3 lbs, her head and body are compact and in perfect proportion to her
size.
It just is a wonder that God puts little thing like that in this world to
love.
After that I have seen several other.
