Hi everyone!
I'm new to this group, and I have two cats - a 6 y.o. Norwegian Forest
and a 3 y.o. Mau. They both love the cat grass that I grow for them
from the kits you can purchase at pet stores. However, they seem to
plow through a container of the grass in record speed.
I want to start growing the grass in larger quantities for them to
both save money and always have some at the ready. My question is,
does anyone else do this 'from scratch', and what do you normally use
for soil/seed?
Thanks in advance. :)

I've bought 3-6 oz. bags of cat grass seeds at Walmart & Petsmart.
It mainly consists of oat, barley & some wheat seeds.
I have found pure oat seeds at www.burpee.com - but they are somewhat
expensive compared to the above mentioned.
Down here in the South it only grows during the fall-winter-spring
seasons. (too hot during the summer).

I'll give you a big hint. So called Cat Grass is simply grass. Plant some in a
sunny spot and it will spread fairly rapidly in warm weather.

I have to disagree - Cat Grass is usually oats - sometimes mixed with
barley and/or wheat.
I've never seen cats eat St. Augustine, Zoysia or any typical lawn
grass.
