A wild shootout at a Bronx basketball tournament left nine people —
including a 5-year-old boy and two players — caught in the fusillade,
officials said.

There was less than a minute left in the championship game between the
Gun Hill Houses and the Eastchester Gardens Houses when the gunplay
erupted at Eastchester's basketball court on Adee Avenue in Allerton
just before 9 p.m., cops and Housing Authority officials said.

"There were seconds left in the fourth quarter and two men started
blasting away," a police source said.

It was not immediately clear what sparked the hail of gunfire at the
15th annual tournament sanctioned by the Housing Authority.

The game was tied at 56 when the shots rang out.

The two men then ran to a nearby car and drove off.

"It was a fast burst of shots," said witness Judy Smith, who ran
downstairs from her apartment when the bullets started flying.
