Figured as much. But then again I just had to deal with a "troll" at work
who gave away 2 week old kittens. She passed them off as 8 weeks old.
Unfortunately I didn't see them. 2 died, one is doing quite well. You just
never know with some people.

I apologize for calling you a troll.  There are a lot of bogus posts,
and your post was rather skimpy on details.

Does the cat take well to brushing?

apology taken.  yah he likes being brushed, or at least doesnt mind.  im able to
get the job done if i have to pin him down upside down, he doesn seem to mind.
im using a human hairbrush (only used for cats now!)  im thinking maybe that is
the problem, but i dont know.

Have you tried your regular vet? If no look there, maybe try calling
around to dog grooming boutiques.
As far as sedation, that would depend on the cat, does the cat get
"wiggy" about things like hair dryers and vaccuums? If your answer to
that is a yes, I would recommend it.
Just so you know, shaving a cat can be severely damaging to the cats
ego, I have a cat with a nervous condition, He had to be shaved,
afterwards he was depressed. Cats, by nature are vain critters, not
having hair may cause them to go all "hermit under the bridge" on you,
With my cat I had to really watch him to make sure that he'd come out eat.
Best of Luck.

yes definately take it to a groomers because the last time WE shaved our
cats butt hair my husband wrapped them in a towel and they were NOT happy
about it.  One of them is very sensitive and doesn't like my husband in the
first place, well doesn't like anyone but me, it takes time for her to get
to like anyone and it's usually a woman.  We have to get it done again
because they are long hair cats and we've noticed having their behinds
shaved keeps them from having extra poop and cat litter stuff stuck to it.
If you can find a better price go for it, tho in my experience Pet Smart
does a great job with the animals in making them feel confortable and safe.
But it all depends on the animal as well. In our experience vet prices were
higher but it also depends on the vet too. Just pull out the yellow pages
and start thumbing through them asking them for prices :).  If they are
higher than someone else mention it and see if they'll give you a deal.

Hope this helps.
