I have an unusual situation here that I sincerely hope I can get some
insight into. Last December, my mom and I lost our long time roommate
(over 5 years she had lived with us). Ever since then, our cat looks
all around the house for her, meows so pitifully that he actually
sounds like he is crying, and sleeps in both of her chairs (one in the
living room and one in her bedroom). Is this normal, and is there
anything we can do to make him feel better and move on?
If you can't be with the one you love, love the one you're with.

Sounds like the cat bonded with that person. He may be like that forever. Try
getting him another cat, that may well help.

Same thing is happening to my mother's cat after the oldest who was 18 years
old passed away. She's keeps whining around the house looking for her.
They aren't sure wether to get another cat for her but my father wants a
dog. So *shrugs* who knows. My mother says she'll get over it in time. I
dunno though, they had been together for a long time.
I dunno if this will help, but is there a way you can take a picture of the
roomate and make a small doll of it for the cat? Maybe that would help.
