Hi there
I've had my cat, Pc now for 2 years, she came from a rescue home. She'd
been taken there by a lady beacause she had a skin complaint on here neck
under he chin and the vets bills had become too much, so I agreed to take
her home. Pc was at the rescure centre for 7 months and in that time she
had many visits to the vets hence the name Pc, practice cat! The vets tried
all sorts to find out what was causing her neck to weep and bleed constantly
and in the end they called it idiopathic, meaning thay didn't know what it
was. Then they tried her on neoral tablets which did the trick and cleared
her neck up. The downside is it's not a cure. If she stops taking them, the
skin becomes all bloody again and they're quite expensive. Whats more, It
can't be good for her to have to constantly take tablets for the rest of her
little life. Has anyone heard of anything like this before or can shed any
light on what may be causing it I would be very grateful.
Thanks
Lucy

Hi Lucy;
Something very similar happened to our cat, Misty, and the vet called it
"wet eczema" and said it was due to food allergy.
We had indeed tried a new food so maybe that did it.
The vet gave her a steroid injection to reduce the inlammation and a tube of
ointment (sorry, can't remember the name) which was a combined anti-biotic
and steroid.
It cleared up the problem in 2 weeks, we've gone back to her regular food
and the problem has not returned.
This may not be any way related to your cat's condition, but it could be
worth a try after talking to your vet again.
Hope you get it cleared up.
regards
Merv
