go to the pet store or your vet - there is something called Laxatone, or
similiar - it's for hairballs.  Some cats like the taste, others don't.

Brush the cat daily to remove the loose fur.

My mother has a long hair, and the only thing they were able to do is change
his diet to a hairball variety of cat food.  Plus they have some kind of
cream in a tube that you can give the cat that will make it easier to
'digest' the hairballs so they aren't throwing them up.

ive had very good experience with purina one special care hairball food, one
barf in 3 months of switching to the food for my longhaired one.  and ive had
very bad experience with the overpriced science diet hairball control food. one
barf every 2 weeks.  i brush him at least every three days. and my other obese
boy, science diet diet catfood did nothing for him either. ive totally boycotted
the over priced under achieving science diet brand food for my cats.  thats my
two cents:)

I also have a longhaired kitty and also had great results with the Purina
One hairball formula.  It's the only thing that I have given my cat that
actually helps the hairball problem.

As for the pricey foods (Iams or Science Diet), I tried those on my cat and
she won't eat them.  She doesn't like them at all, just sticks her nose up
at them and lets them sit in her bowl.  I don't even waste my time on them
any more.

Hello Fiona,

My cat used to do that all the time. How bad are the symptoms? Is s/he just
throwing up hair balls or is it worse?

Please let me know.

Cheers,

Alain

P.S. Off the subject of this newsgroup: could you help me with something? I
am currently doing online research and I am having a
hard time finding participants for my short survey/experiment. Could you
complete one for me? That would be
awesome! It's at the following address:
