The Bonsai Kitten web site is a joke, not an actual promotion for the making of bonsai kittens. Investigations by law enforcement agencies, including the FBI, have already determined no real cats were harmed in the creation of the pictures used on the Bonsai Kitten web site. Signing a petition to shut down the Bonsai Kitten web site will not prevent any kittens from being harmed, because no kittens were harmed in the first place. It was all a joke, one which some say was in terribly poor taste. If that was your reaction, take comfort in the knowledge that many others thought the same. How could you have known the Bonsai Kitten site was a satire despite its lack of "This is a joke!" banners emblazoned across it? Satire doesn't always announce itself as such (some feel that would ruin its humor), so in cases like this, one dusts off the common sense and aims it at the problem: a.. The process described is impossible -- animals so treated would die long before they could be "molded." b.. The web site offers no way to purchase the materials advertised -- a real commercial enterprise wouldn't build consumer interest through a flashy web site then fail to offer anything for sale. c.. "Bonsai Kitten" displays no actual pictures of the finished product -- there are no molded kittens on display. Once, near me, there was a chinese restaurant that was closed down because of it. There were way too many kitty carcasses found in their bin. And I'll tell you this... there weren't alot of cats running around stray before they were closed down. Alot easier on the paint, on the hood of my car too.. no more scratches from them climbing all over it. It's too bad cat owners don't tie up their cats and keep them under control, just like the dog owners are suppose to. My partner grew up in Hong Kong and she mentions that they eat anything... monkeys, zeebras, cats, dogs, anything, any animal except for humans. and the Aztecs did eat humans even. Where as some today think that non-human animals are somehow less important, the high people of the Aztecs thought the same of the lower people, and especially of the prisoners of war... Laws change with the culture and the times, but they can never change what things really are... Slavery used to be legal, it used to be legal to beat a married woman with a stick no thinker than the mans thumb (rule of thumb), it used to be legal to beat a child with a belt or stick to the point of leaving scars. Laws are created by people, so they are not above us; they only exists because specific people created them. The change in laws shows that laws are not solid guides of right and wrong, but they are subject to us re-thinking them and changing them. There is no way the suggested proceedures would work (super-gluing the anus and urinary tract and inserting a tube??? There are horros like this being done in Asia, like using real cat fur on stuffed animals, and growing them in boxes to mold their bodies (similar to this site, but it is actually being done. But do the animals a very big favor, and be sure you are putting your emotion and effort into *real* cases.
