Two Male Cats (Young and Old) Help

I have a 13 year old male cat that has been neutered and another male cat
thats only about 7 months old and not neutered yet.  The young cat (kitten)
is always attacking the older cat and it doesn't look like playtime either.
His eyes literally turn red and he goes for the neck.  When this happens we
have been locking his a.s up for an hour or so but it isn't working.  We
were thinking maybe he is just being a kitten, maybe not.  Maybe he wants to
be the dominant male cat in the house.  Well we are going to have his a.s
neutered soon and hopefully he will chill out a bit.  We also have a small
dog, female, and they play a lot together, unlike interreaction with our
older cat.

Any suggestions other than giving the kitten away??

I just found this newsgroup and hopefully it is a place where I can find
answers and not nude photos of Brittany
Spears or Oprah.

Seven months is a little young for the hormones to be kicking in, but
maybe that's it.  Hope neutering helps.  He does sound like a rowdy
little kitty, though, playing with the dog -- bet he's cute.

This is just a guess, but your other cat is older and may be having
some difficulties coping with the new youngster, and maybe because of
this he's sending some cat signals to the young 'un that is triggering
these attacks, or at least encouraging them by not bopping the kit on
the head when the attacks first started.  Does that make any sense?

I don't think it's a binaries group.  There are some weird posts here
sometimes, though, but through it all does appear to run a thread of
on-topic love and interest in cats.  Have only been here a little
while myself, but welcome aboard!

"..we are going to have his a.s

neutered instead. LOL

Having him neutered should resolve most of the aggressive nature of
the kitten's "playing."  About ten years ago we acquired a total of
five males and three females in a fairly short time. Within the
"Pride" we saw many power struggles as the males tried for the title
of Alpha male. As each male got snipped, he would drop out of the
competition. When all was said and done, dominance was settled (with
very few fights) by level of intelligence rather than testosterone. It
was fun while it lasted...

Any not -yet- neutered(male) cat likes to be the dominant cat.
They play with females beacause they are not danger to their teritory.
Fix the kitten and everything will be just fine.

Agree 100% on this. Many other potential problems can be avoided or at
least reduced with this solution... ~Ed~
