Hi all.
\
I've joined this newsgroup in the hope that the age old problem of
getting cats and dogs to co-exist might yield some discussion.
The cat is female and about five years old. Sghe has been my pet for
about four months. I collected her from the SPCA and she had previously
been well looked after and presented as havingT a generally calm
disposition. her history is of course, uncertain. Thus: she may have
had a bad experience with a dog.
The dog is young, large and a frequent visitor since October. He wil be
permanently housed here by the end of January.
\
Cat is very frightened of dog, and dog does not take any interest in
her.
Cat displays here fear by choosing a favourite spot and simply staying
there. She lies in my office chair or in an armchair also in mhy office.
The office is upstairs. The dog will often climb the stairs but does
not come into the office. I thik that he has been struck by the cat and
is frightened of shar claws and loud hissing. The cat does not choose
to visit her food and water trays: she is affectionate when I find her,
but very anxious when I carry her to her food and water. Food and water
are very important right now as it is summer and I am worried that she
will dehydrate. Food is out of reach of dog and currently I pay
attention to the cat while the dog is otherwise distracted - i.e. - his
own feeding or with a toy.
There are plenty of ways in which the cat can protect ehrself - she can
climb of course and is a good jumper through open windows.
Earlier today, I found her on the drive way and she did not resist too
much when I brought her inside.
Would appreciate any help/suggestions; maybe I just have to sit it out
for several days until the cat overcomes her anxiety, but maybe there
are things which I can do to help her.
