Hi there

Been lurking for a while, would like to know how Tosca is doing.

Did you mean MY Tosca?  Or were you talking about another Tosca?

your tosca chris. the one with the upset tummy

Thank you for asking.

Unfortunately, the diarrhoea continues.  She has been back and forth to the
vet and is now on her third lot (continual) of kaolin/antibiotic mix
tablets.  It has not got worse but is not particularly improving.

I have her on a diet of chicken and rice and some very blank vet food which
she takes her pills with.

It's all very frustrating really.  I am keeping her on these pills for 5
more days and then I'm going to suggest she goes in for tests.

The vet seems to think it is simply an intollerance to something - but I
have no idea what right now because she isn't getting anything very
interesting!

But she's lively and happy.  I think it upsets me more than it does her!

Will keep you posted.

Any ideas very much welcomed.

Chris

P.S.  My latest 'recipe' for her is fresh chicken, mixed with rice and
chicken soup (my vet suggested the chicken soup - the one you mix with
water).  It makes the mixture wetter and she finds it easier to digest.  I'm
hoping this might improve things.  I'm trying to clear up the problem first
and then gradually reintroduce her to new foods until I find something that
she can stomach (literally!)

Have you tried tosca on egg. iirc when one of my cats was sick i am
sure the vet told me to try her on scrambled egg. Maybe it's worth a
try.

Yes, I had thought about that - but I've decided to stick to one thing for
now, hopefully get it cleared up and then start adding things - or I'll
never find out what is upsetting her.

Unfortunately, she's not too keen on chicken and rice and only eats when
she's starving - I feel like the wicked witch.  But guess I'm being cruel to
be kind and taking strick instructions from the vet.

One of the things that put me off scrambled egg was the fact that you really
need to add milk.  I could use cat milk but I know there's a lot of lactose
intollerence and it might be she's suffers from that too!

I also have some Provita which I give her on a daily basis - it's a natural
product that's supposed to help.

Tosca is now staying at the vets for a few days so they can do some tests.
Hopefully, they will be able to find out what is causing this.  Fingers
crossed.

Update:  Tosca had a very high white cell blood count, indicating that she
was fighting an infection.  I now have her on antibiotics and she's
definitely improving - eating more than I have ever seen her eat since I got
her!  Still on mild vetinary food at the moment until it's all cleared up.

Great news! The improvement, not the infection. *S* Would hate to give
anyone the wrong impression. Does she take her meds well? I have spot on
liquid amoxi for a mild UTI. He does very well with the liquid. Not sure I'd
want to try pilling him though.

Hope Tosca continues to improve and will be able to eat "normal" food soon.

Yes, I mix the pills up with her food and she's eating so well, she doesn't
appear to be aware of them at all.  I have never seen her eat so much - she
even ate the chicken I put down for her tonight - she normally turns her
nose up at that.

She crys for food too - never done that before!  It's like having a
different cat!!

Hopefully, I'll have it all cleared up in a week.  The vet has said to bring
her back if it hasn't gone in a week so they can do some more tests but so
far, it's looking good.

Thank you
