Why in the world do you have nine cats? I could understand if you were
rehabilitating the felines, then turning them over to a shelter for
adoption, but nine is literally six too many! Good luck with finding each
one a home. Some bleeding heart will take a few off your hands. You
apartment must smell lovely! Good luck!

What are you going to do with the rabbit and ferrets? Are you taking those
too or are you trying to find home for them?

Hi Celtic,
We too had nine at one time in a house. We were down to eight when
we moved to an apartment. We were able to sneak four in with us, but
could not find homes for any of the remaining four. Our local Humane
Society had policy of deciding the fate of all cats when they
arrive... either they got put down right then if there was a
behavioral or health problem, or they got sent up to the adoption
center for as long as it took to re-home them. Talk to the various
chapters along the route from your old home to your new one, and ask
if they can make a similar promise. We waited there until we were sure
that all four passed the inspection process, and I'm sure yours would
too, from your description. Actually, cats that come from
well-socialized and healthy homes are in high demand in many places,
so they might all get adopted very quickly...
I have also heard of chapters that will guarantee that your cat
won't be put down if you make a larger than normal contribution to the
chapter when you drop them off. This doesn't excite me from an ethics
standpoint, but anything that might help keep them alive until
adoption is gotta be worth something... Maybe you could bribe a
chapter into not giving them a time limit... check with the national
web site and find all the chapters that you could realistically
reach...
Another possibility is asking local organizations or shelters if
there is someone willing to foster them on an interim basis, then able
to use a longer timeframe to find them permanent homes...

Nurse Crow,
Well said, however one would probably infer that if the author is
"loosing her apartment" money is probably tight. So, the notion of being
able to make contribution to the chapter when you drop the cats off is
probably out of the question. This issue is sad, but really what was the
author thinking by taking in nine cats? In most cities, unless you are a
licensed breeder, it's considered cruel to have that many animals in such a
small, cramped area. This is a slippery slope that the author should have
foreseen.
