My sweet little old lady cat is terrorized of the whole car/vet experience.
This may sound morbid but i am dead serious.  When her time to get that
final shot comes (Hopefully not soon) I would like her to be in the comfort
of my/her home, perhaps even on the couch with me, as we often are.  I don't
want her final hour to be one of terror and nervousness.  A trip to the vet
will do just that to her.  To think she would take her final breath all
nervous and scared seems sad.  I want her to be at ease and comfort.  When
the time comes, can it be done in the comfort of home?

Yes

My vet will do home visits.  Find one in your area that will do the same.

Yes, it is possible.  I know that I when I made the decision to put my cat
down about 10 years ago, we found a vet who actually came to the house to do
it.  It was not our normal vet, but he came anyway.  We literally just went
through the phone book until we found one that would come.  I felt the same
way as you did.  She was 21 years old and had not been in a car in probably
20 years, no joke.  I did not want her to go through any type of stress at
the time and I wanted her to pass at home.  Hopefully you will not have to
make this decision for a very long time.....

Hi Momo:

The title of this thread had me worried!  I'm glad your wee one
is alright.  One option to discuss with your vet in advance is
whether they would let you keep one or two tablets of sedative
at home, if you cannot find a vet that does home visits, then
the very least you could do is sedate the cat before travel so
that she is not scared or freaked out.  I have always kept a few
tablets of chlorpromazine around if ever that day came, God
forbid.  My cats are so afraid of vets that it generally draws
significant blood from me to get them in the carrier.  So I know
where you are coming from.
