My beloved cat of 18 years now lives with tremendous pain whenever she moves
and I have made the very hard decision that it is time to let her go.

The super hard part of the decision stems from her fear of the vet.
Each time I take her to the vet it is a struggle to get her in her carrier,
she screams the entire time and is so miserable that it makes me cry. She
also hates being around and touched by strangers.

The only vet in the area does not make "house calls" and is a very uncaring
jerk.
I do not want her last hours on earth to be spent in misery so I was hoping
there would be something I could give her to sedate her before going to the
vet or something that would let her drift off.

Has anyone had to deal with this before? Any advice would be most
appreciated.

Crystal there is a seditive you can get from the Vet. It is the med you give
them before going on a long drive to help keep them calm. Would you cat ride
more comfortable in a box insted of the carrier.

David, sorry I have not gotten back sooner but I have been down in the
dumps.
Thank you ever so much for your kind advice.
I called a vet in another city and he gave me the pill and made her passing
a little easier.

Would your vet be willing to give you a heavy sedative to give before you
try to come in?  One of the most common is Ace, but it can have an opposite
effect on cats.  Some actually get more upset.  Ask your vet (or his
receptionist or tech or assistant if they are a bit nicer than he is) if
they will rx you something more dependable in cats.  There is no safe way
for you to send your kitty to heaven yourself.  Anything you try could
result in a painful experience far worse than the unpleasant drive to the
vets office.  You need the vet's assistance on this one.
