Local Vet is Nuts

Starlord - 31 May 2006 17:26 GMT I know some prices have gone up, but the local vet here in Rosamond,CA. has gone nuts. Last month I called about the price of having a male altered, they said $60.00. As I live on fixed income it took me another month to save the rest up, so today I took one of the 3 males there. They hand me a form to sign with a price of $144.00 on it! I oped out of 1/2 of the things they wanted to do, got it down to $78.00 and that's going to reach my limits real fast.
Next time I'll either go to Mojave or Lancaster.

Frequently animal rescue agencies and shelters subsidise spays and neueters. Ask around next time!
Hope the pussycatsare well~! :)
Starlord - 01 Jun 2006 03:17 GMT Rosamond is out in the High Mojave Desert, there is one program up in the mountain town but it's only for DOGS, and any other is for those that live down in Los Angeles county not for Kern county. But I called a Lancaster vet today and their set price is $50.00 and it's a one day deal, this local vet keeps them over night which I've never had happen before which having a cat altered. It may cost me $15.00 in gas, but that's better than paying this vet their high fees.

Starlord - 22 Apr 2007 19:41 GMT I love living in the desert, where we can have temps of 110F in mid summer and it's nice and dry too. So far this year we've had ZERO rain falling in Rosamond, which is next door to Edwards AFB.

Starlord - 22 Apr 2007 19:38 GMT The boy I had fixed is very well and I have another one I need to get that done to, but here in kern county there is no help money wise from any outfit, in fact but for the few that get a home, many of the dogs/cats in the pound get put down. That's why none of my cats go outside, it's not safe. Plus my Japanese Bobtails are showable cats too in the championship rings.

They usually will neuter or spay a cat for about $30 a pop and that is with a current rabies vac.

[quoted text clipped - 29 lines] >> Astro Blog >> http://starlord.bloggerteam.com/ send reply - 07 Jun 2006 05:30 GMT The humane Society is something I will check out. Thanks. It should be no surprise that animals are in great need of rescue. The system has betrayed them, just as the human health care system continues to betray more and more of us. I once gave a loving home to 3 cats. Due to the explosion in vet costs in the past couple years I can only afford to properly care for one from here on out. Who knows if costs keep going up exponentially I may no longer be able to keep a pet in the future. My vet charges $135 dollars for the annual required vaccinations now. I thought it was getting ridiculous so I started shopping around. I thought I saw relief when I saw a new vet clinic open up in my local Petsmart. I called them for an estimate on giving my cat its annual shots. They told me around $200 dollars! It's a sad but simple truth. The crazy increase in costs to maintain a pet leaves more animals in need of a home. The high profit of animal care is on the rise. I guess that's capitalism. Poor animals.

It is much cheaper than paying for a vet visit and check up as well as the shots.

I even have a bottle of med to use if any get a cold or anything else. Only time the vet sees me is when it's something I can't care for. Akumaizer Cattery Japanese Bobtails since 1973.
